The TaeGukKi symbolizes the characteristics of Tae Kwon Do. The energy characteristics of the Tae Guk Ki are described in the book I Ging in detail. The Tae Guk Ki consists of the following components:
Tae Guk represents a perfect state. The border between
Yang (the top) and Um (the lower) is presented in such a way,
that different mixtures between Yang (red) and Um (blue) are
possible. However Yang and Um cannot accour alone.
Yang characteristics are fast, bright, outward radiating,
male.
Um characteristics are slow, dark, down, inward directed,
female.
The circle serves in other systems e.g.
Zen meditation
as symbol of the perfect condition, also.
Geon symbolizes pure Yang energy.
Heaven is the typical example for Geon.
Gon symbolizes the pure Um (Yin) energy.
Earth is the typical example for Um.
Li symbolizes fire energy.
The sun is the example for Li.
Gam symbolizes water energy.
The moon is the example for water energy.
The Tae Guk Ki shows the components Yang und Um, Heaven und Earth , Sun und Moon in a balanced, perfect condition. Reaching such a condition is the goal of the Hwa Rang Tae Kwon Do training. We endeavor to balance body and spirit, longing and hate, like and dislike.
